FQPPU supports strikers at Bishop's University

Montréal, July 4, 2007 - The Fédération québécoise des professeures et professeurs d’université extends its support to the non-academic staff of Bishop’s University, who are embarking on the second week of strike action.

The FQPPU strongly protests the unacceptable demands and refusal to negotiate in good faith on the part of the administration, which has even gone back on normative clauses previously agreed upon with the Association of Professors of Bishop’s University (APBU), which is trying to obtain a first collective agreement for the support staff.

The Fédération denounces the highly questionable decisions taken by the administration, which has not hesitated in recent years to grant substantial raises to upper administrative levels. Now, they expect the employees to pay the price for their budget difficulties, while simultaneously seeking to reduce their participation in the governing bodies of the university.

The FQPPU urges the administration to come back to the negotiating table and to respect the agreements they have already signed, while demonstrating their willingness to enter a constructive dialogue with the APBU and the whole community of Bishop’s University.
