In Quebec, Minister Pascale D\u00e9ry has significantly weakened the university\u2019s public mission rather than protecting it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>An ambitious campaign to relight the beacon:<\/strong> FQPPU launches a campaign to bring the university\u2019s mission back to the heart of democratic debate. Its manifesto, <a href=\"https:\/\/savinguniversity.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Relight the Beacon<\/em><\/a>, defends five essential pillars of the university\u2019s public purpose: public funding, academic freedom, collegial governance, institutional autonomy, and resistance to the commodification of knowledge.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A call to action to end silent erosion:<\/strong> \u201cWe want university underfunding and political interference to become shameful and politically costly,\u201d says Madeleine Pastinelli. Here, Minister Pascale D\u00e9ry\u2019s harmful actions\u2014including her refusal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ledevoir.com\/politique\/quebec\/862573\/caq-refuse-motion-proteger-liberte-academique-universites\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">to acknowledge threats from the U.S. against researchers<\/a>, as well as her interference in <a href=\"https:\/\/fqppu.org\/ingerence-politique-ministre-pascale-dery-college-dawson\/\">teaching content<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/fqppu.org\/refus-denteriner-une-nomination-au-conseil-dadministration-de-linrs-une-ingerence-politique-inquietante\/\">faculty appointments<\/a>\u2014have hollowed out the very ministry charged with protecting this freedom. Federation invites all those committed to free inquiry and democratic vitality to join this movement.<\/p>\n<p>Adopted unanimously by FQPPU\u2019s Federal Council in April, the campaign centers on five pillars essential to the university\u2019s mission, all under serious threat:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A massive and sustained reinvestment in universities as a public good<\/li>\n<li>Full protection of education and research\u2014to be seen as shameful, politically costly, and socially unacceptable,\u201d Pastinelli added. \u201cThe university\u2019s mission is too important to be surrendered to interests that do not serve the common good. It\u2019s time we reclaim it, together.\u201d Let us recall that on May 13, FQPPU called for <a href=\"https:\/\/fqppu.org\/la-fqppu-demande-la-demission-de-pascale-dery\/\">the immediate resignation of Minister Pascale D\u00e9ry<\/a>, whose repeated actions have broken all trust with the university
