Over the last several months, the Fédération québécoise des professeures et professeurs d’université (FQPPU) has publicly denounced the increasingly litigious nature of the student conflict, police brutality and illegal arrests on university campuses. The FQPPU is once again objecting to the unfair and humiliating arrest of Thibault Martin, a professor at the Université du Québec en Outaouais. Professor Martin was arrested in unfair, if not incomprehensible circumstances because he was heading to work. This unjustified arrest has damaged Professor Martin’s reputation and physical integrity. Furthermore, the arrest of Professor Martin irreversibly undermines freedom of opinion and academic freedom, which are both key requirements for university activities.
