Short Guide to Inclusive Writing (in French)

December 2023. This guide presents the Federation’s guidelines for using inclusive writing.

“Additional implicit biases are embedded within the FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) funding formula. These biases provide significant advantages to programs and universities that enroll the most privileged students. To minimize these biases, the FQPPU recommends incorporating factors related to the proportion of first-generation students, student-parents, students with disabilities, and students from remote regions into the weighting of FTEs. The formula should also include dedicated funding for integrating Indigenous students in consultation with their communities, for example, by allocating a specific budget for this purpose.”

“The uncontested dominance of English as the primary language for scientific communication and as the standard for evaluating the scientific merit of research is a widespread issue. This impacts not only researchers who speak French in Canada and in Francophone countries, but all researchers whose native language is not English.”
